While I’m still privately extending celebration for African American History Month, I wanted to acknowledge the notable passing of Katherine Johnson on February 24, 2020. During the space race of 1960s, Katherine Goble Johnson an African American mathematician, distinguished herself at NASA. Considered a human computer, she was instrumental to their space program (see full post).
Yes, I’m again extending Black History Month. Cultural icon B. Smith died on February 22, 2020. B. Smith, whose full name is Barbara Elaine Smith was an American restaurateur, model, author, businesswoman and television host. At the height of the its popularity, I visited her New York City restaurant for appetizers and drinks. Her business brand expanded to include home lifestyle and fashion. Economic empowerment for African Americans, especially women, is always super.
Writer, actor, and host James Lipton passed away on March 2, 2020. Lipton was most known to me as the host of Bravo’s cable series Inside the Actor’s Studio. Debuting in 1994, Lipton interviewed a roster of notable actors including Meryl Streep and Morgan Freeman. Lipton retired from the show in 2018 (see full post).
In Alabama, Nathaniel Woods, an African American death row inmate, was executed for the alleged conspiracy in the killing of three Birmingham police officers in 2004. Co-defendant and trigger man Kerry Spencer stated he acted alone. As some assert, did racial bias and legal mismanagement play a role in his conviction?
How can I avoid the 24-7 news coverage of the coronavirus? In at-risk individuals, the corona virus can cause the coronavirus disease known as covid-19. Be mindful and safe. I’m prayerful for everyone connected dealing with this situation, include my heroes at the frontlines, medical personnel at all levels addressing the evolving health crisis in the Unites States and across the world.
The democratic presidential primary election tightens as frontrunners Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden take a runaway lead over third candidate Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard. Among top campaign issues include healthcare, economic empowerment, and, maybe the key issue, who can defeat President Donald Trump in the general election. What are your top issues?
Despite physical health challenges, I strive to stay consistent with my low-impact exercise program: walking, stretching, calisthenics, dips, pushups, and Bruce Lee posing. A healthy lifestyle must include some strengthening, flexibility, and aerobic exercise throughout the week. It’s not about being perfect, but rather being consistent. I often support my exercise regimen with meditation. Exercise body and mind! You can do it too!
I have little time to watch television these days. No complaints. But when find some viewing time, my guilty pleasure is The Mask Singer, a celebrity sing-off competition featuring performers in full-body costumes with a stylized face mask. Broadcasting on FOX Network, and hosted by Nick Cannon, the celebrity reveal at the end of each show still delivers smiles and surprises. What celebrity will next be unveiled? (see full post)
Sometimes life knocks you off track and off balance. Sometimes an unexpected blow from an unforseen circumstance sweeps you off your feet. Before you can steady yourself, you’re lying on the ground. Maybe even feeling smashed up and defeated. I’ve been there. I still gather bits of myself together now and again. Some days it seems I’m still wobbly as I push forward with life. Fortunately, I recently rediscovered gratitude. When I feel and show gratitude for all the little wonders of my life at the present time, I stand up straighter. And when I contemplate the little miracles that will be granted me in the future, I am filled with revitalizing hope. Gratitude and appreciation enables your prospects for the future grows in value and abudance. For what things in your life do you show gratitude?
Until next time, be blessed!
